A thermostatic balancing valve automatically regulates the flow in a hot water circulation system so that each circulation branch reaches its pre-set temperature. It is also fitted with a mechanical bypass device to facilitate thermal disinfection against Legionella.
Working Principle
In a domestic hot water system, every circulation branch must reach the required temperature to ensure hot water is available immediately at the tap and to prevent Legionella growth. The flow in each branch therefore has to be regulated to avoid uneven branch temperatures. The thermostatic balancing valve is installed in every branch of the hot water circulation system and automatically maintains the set temperature: a built-in thermostatic cartridge regulates the flow through the valve body according to the inlet water temperature. As the water temperature approaches the set value, the cartridge progressively reduces the flow, and the circulating flow is redistributed to the other branches — achieving rapid temperature balancing across the system.
Depending on system requirements, the valve can be supplied with a thermal disinfection function that raises the circulation temperature to 55–60 °C. Disinfection is fully automatic and available in two forms: thermostatic disinfection, where the cartridge is pre-set to 70 °C, and electric disinfection, where a thermal actuator controls the disinfection cycle.
